The house that Eric built

The Thump and Lick
of base and treble quickly
lit

A hum and tune in mind provided to a brain battened down like hatches on a ship of fools set to sea with ambition and practiced prowess

The Thump and Lick
The See-You Through
Sweeping change
Fresh and new

The family
You build with open arms

A fitting reward
To the kindness in your smile
A reflection perfect of you

Not out for gold
Not o' conquest
The treasure dig-dug
The rock wealth found
Residual deposits
Mined from the veins, creases, and deep grooves
of a family man's open arms

To feast from famine

driven like a soup spoon

diving
down
deep
for a ladle human comfort
sweep away late night
summer rain sorrowssweep away hunger pangs
from starving belly bottoms
throwing down broth
to a sea of anger
percolating
converting
energy
digest

Fast

as time
burned within rooms
of laughter and smile
so fast moments burn forever
and freeze in time
reality converts memory
alive forever forever never again
Its a lightning life
all in the bent span
turning within the fleeing breath of a hummingbird’s wing
